Nov 15, 2013

The American Society of Appraisers announces the hosting of two conferences: How to be a Successful and Effective Expert Witness (March 5-6) and Personal Property Issues and Insights: SFO San Francisco (March 7-8) to take place at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, California.

How to be a Successful and Effective Expert Witness (March 5-6, 2014)

The first two-day conference, How to be a Successful and Effective Expert Witness (March 5-6), is applicable for appraisers of all disciplines and will focus on how to succeed and excel as an expert witness. The program was developed especially for valuation professionals by Jim Mangraviti, Esq. and SEAK, a leading provider of expert witness training and publications. Topics will include common CV and website mistakes, what goes into a defensible report, preparing for deposition, trial, and dealing with difficult cross-examinations. Illustrative videos and mock trial exercises will be included, and much more. Mr. Mangraviti has provided training to thousands of professionals, including the IRS Art Appraisal Services. A comprehensive reference manual will be provided, and other SEAK materials will be available for purchase. 14 hours of CE and CPE credits will be offered, which have also been approved by California’s Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers (BREA).

Personal Property Issues and Insights: SFO (March 7-8, 2014)

The second 1.5-day connoisseurship conference, Personal Property Issues and Insights: SFO San Francisco (March 7-8), will be devoted to the special collections and sites of San Francisco with lectures and tours. The three morning speakers will include experts on photography identification and conservation, the Swedenborgian contribution to Arts & Crafts design and aesthetics, and Asian Art with a special emphasis on how general appraisers can distinguish between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Charter bus transportation will be provided to three destinations on Friday including: the Pilara Foundation Collection (or an additional option) with remarks by Christopher McCall, Director, the Swedenborgian Church of San Francisco, an 1895 historical landmark, with remarks on the Arts & Crafts design and the William Keith paintings, followed by a talk on wine values with a wine tasting and reception at Bonhams. Saturday morning will include a panel of dealers discussing new venues for sales and the changing dynamics of the market and buyers. This will be followed by a self-guided walking tour of Jackson Square galleries and antique dealers. 10 hours of CE credits will be offered.

Each of the conferences are tailor-made for appraisers and allied professionals and will offer attendees the benefits of enhancing and growing their expertise and knowledge, expanding their business and valuation services through networking opportunities and earning continuing professional education credits.

A variety of registration and pricing discounts are available, including special savings for those who register early. Early registration discounts end January 15, 2014.
