The Appraisal Foundation Celebrates Women Serving the Appraisal Profession

Mar 08, 2019

Deadline for Board of Trustees Application is March 25

(Washington, DC) March 8, 2019 – In honor of International Women's Day, the Appraisal Foundation celebrates the women who are advancing the appraisal profession by serving on The Appraisal Foundation’s Board of Trustees and its independent board, the Appraisal Standards Board. The Appraisal Foundation has benefited enormously from leaders who are women in a wide variety of capacities, whether they have served on a Foundation board, chaired a board, educated and trained incoming appraisers, or mentored the next generation.

Among the 21 seats on the Board of Trustees, 33 percent are occupied by women. On the six-member Appraisal Standards Board, 66 percent are held by women. When compared to the overall number of women in the appraisal profession, which the Appraisal Subcommittee National Registry finds is 26 percent, both of The Appraisal Foundation’s boards easily surpass the profession’s mean.

“The story of The Appraisal Foundation would not be complete without the chapter about the trailblazing women who have led, challenged and raised the bar for the appraisal profession,” said The Appraisal Foundation President Dave Bunton. “The fact that the majority of the Appraisal Foundation’s boards surpass the profession’s mean didn’t just happen. It is the result of our efforts to attract and promote women to leadership roles.”

“The Appraisal Foundation is committed to ensuring that the appraisal profession is open to all who seek to advance the public’s trust in valuations and appraisals,” said Leila Dunbar, vice chair of the Appraisal Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “There are qualified appraisal professionals, many of whom are women, whose diverse set of skills would be a great addition to those now serving on The Appraisal Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The nomination process for board members is open, and I encourage everyone, female and male, to apply.”

Elected members of the Board of Trustees may include individuals from all appraisal disciplines, users of appraisal services, former appraiser regulators, academics, and business leaders. Completed applications for Board vacancies must be received by March 25, 2019. Please contact Board and Councils Program Manager Arika Cole at 202.624.3072 or email her at arika@appraisalfoundation.org about the application process.
