ASA Needs Your Vote - Invitation from International President

Aug 28, 2017

The American Society of Appraisers needs your vote.

Something exciting is about to happen. ASA’s Board and that of the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to merge NAIFA into ASA, and by Delaware law and our own governing documents, ASA needs your vote!

These laws establish the quorum as ASA’s entire voting membership. Approving this merger requires 51% of the Society’s members to vote in its favor. That’s thousands of “Yes” votes required - it’s the most ambitious vote ASA has ever attempted, and everything rides on YOU.

The physical vote will be held during ASA’s annual conference, at lunch on October 8. But you don’t have to attend the conference to vote. ASA has made it easy for you to provide a proxy for your vote using an online ballot, which you received on Monday, August 28 in an e-mail that will also give notice of the vote. All proxies must be submitted no later than October 5th. If you do not actively participate in the voting process, you will be considered to be in support of the proposed merger and a “Yes” proxy will be provided on your behalf during the vote.

Many of you will have questions about how the merger will affect ASA and the Real Property discipline. To answer them, ASA has developed an FAQ document in conjunction with NAIFA that answers many of these questions, which you can access on the proxy ballot page. If you still have questions once you’ve had a chance to read the FAQ document, ASA has also set up a dedicated e-mail address for you to submit questions and receive answers; simply e-mail mergerinfo@appraisers.org and put the topic of your question in the “Subject” line.

This merger provides a unique opportunity for members of both groups to show how, through collaboration and partnership, we can work to bring the profession closer together. It will double the size of ASA’s Real Property discipline, adding over 700 new members at once. Leaders in the Real Property discipline have been working on this for TEN YEARS; it’s that important. This merger is an important step forward for both ASA and the valuation profession, and either submit your “Yes” proxies or vote in person on October 8th.

Voting members are encouraged to touch base with other ASA members in their chapter, office and committees; urge them to vote. We need everyone to make this happen.
