Jim Timmins heads the valuation practice at Teknos. He has worked in Silicon Valley for more than 30 years, much of that time in venture capital and investment banking. In addition to completing more than 1,000 valuations and fairness opinions, Jim has participated in numerous merger transactions, private placements, and public offerings during his career.
Prior to forming Teknos, Jim was a Managing Director at Pagemill Partners, where he created and managed the valuation practice. Before that he was the Managing Director of the Silicon Valley office of NIF Ventures (the venture capital arm of Daiwa Securities SMBC of Japan), and a General Partner of Glenwood Ventures and Glenwood Capital. Earlier in his career, he held positions in investment banking at Hambrecht & Quist and Salomon Brothers.
Jim has served on more than 15 boards of directors of private and public companies; he currently serves on the board of directors and audit committee of Zhone Technology.
Jim has consulted and testified as an expert witness on a variety of cases involving technology companies and venture capital investment, for companies such as Intel, National Semiconductor, Flir Systems, AmerisourceBergen, and Wells Fargo.
Jim holds a BA from Trinity College, University of Toronto, an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He has spoken at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, the School of Law, Santa Clara University, the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, he has taught continuing education courses for lawyers in early stage company finance and valuation through the Practicing Law Institute, and he is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and associations.
Jim has earned the designation Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) in both business valuation and intangible assets from the American Society of Appraisers. He also has earned the designation Certified Forensic Financial Analyst (CFFA) in business and intellectual property damages from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts.
