All designated members of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) are required to submit evidence of professional growth through continuing education and/or participation in professional activities to remain an accredited AM, ASA or FASA. The deadline for reaccreditation is five years from the date of your original accreditation or five years from your last reaccreditation (unless you previously reaccredited for a shorter term).
100 hours of credit are required to earn a full, five-year reaccreditation. A designated member who has not accumulated enough hours to reaccredit for a five-year period may request reaccreditation for fewer than five years. Please see the following alternatives:
| Greater than | But less than | Cont. Ed. (40%) | Reaccreditation will be: |
| 80 hours | 99 hours | 32 hours | 4-year reaccreditation period |
| 60 hours | 79 hours | 24 hours | 3-year reaccreditation period |
| 40 hours | 59 hours | 16 hours | 2-year reaccreditation period |
A minimum of 40% of the required hours must be in the category of continuing education. This must include the minimum USPAP requirement imposed by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of the Appraisal Foundation or by ASA. Continuing education is defined as classroom lectures, seminars and instruction at education conferences, colleges or universities or distance education. The remaining 60% of the hours can be in organizational participation such as chapter meetings, serving on a committee, etc.
Credit hours earned must be within the accredited member's current reaccreditation period. Evidence of professional growth must be described, documented and submitted to ASA International Headquarters in order to receive full reaccreditation credit.
For complete information on reaccreditation, please click here for the Reaccreditation Booklet.
It is important that you submit documentation for all continuing education listed on your form in order to ensure it is acceptable for ASA reaccreditation purposes.
