Personal Property offers course in the following categories:

National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice(USPAP) Courses

The standards courses are taught by ASA, as well as through the university partners and chapters. You can also take USPAP audio courses through distance learning.  Either version is acceptable for your accreditation or reaccreditation requirements.

    PP/GJ201: Personal Property Valuation Methodology—Introduction

    Course level: Introductory

    Prerequisites: None

    Objectives: 

    • Provide an overview of valuation theory within the context of the appraisal process
    • Introduce terminology used in the appraisal profession
    • Provide a working knowledge of Approaches to Value: Cost, Sales Comparison, and Income
    • Introduce procedural methods
    • Introduce the types of value and their application to various intended uses
    • Explain the ethical rules and standards of the appraisal profession

    PP/GJ202: Personal Property Valuation Methodology—Research and Analysis

    Course level: Intermediate

    Prerequisites: Successful completion of PP/GJ201

    Objectives: Become familiar with and examine in-depth

    • The relationship between valuation theory and market economics and statistics
    • Matching appraisal methods to appraisal purposes and objectives
    • Researching primary and secondary sources
    • Uses of statistics in valuation
    • The work plan and its components
    • Research design and organization
    • Interpretation of catalog information and prices
    • Advanced valuation theory and principles that influence valuation
    • Appraisal terminology
    • Functions of appraisal and identification in the appraisal process

    Course level: Intermediate

    Prerequisites: Successful completion of PP/GJ201 and PP/GJ202

    Objectives: Practice and understand

    • The necessary components of a written appraisal report
    • Appraisal report standards and the methods required to prepare an appraisal document
    • The development of the appraisal narrative for insurance scheduling
    • Online market research and analysis of market data to complete an individual appraisal using course materials introduced in PP/GJ202
