USPAP Requirements

•   Applicants

Applicants must complete a 15-hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course and pass the exam within ten (10) months of their approval for admission. Real Property applicants may provide a copy of their state license in lieu of taking a 15-hour USPAP course and exam.

•   Appraisal Review and Management

Candidates

All Candidates in the Appraisal Review and Management discipline are required to have completed 15 hours of USPAP study within the five years preceding their application for advancement to Accredited Member or Accredited Senior Appraiser status.

Accredited Members (AM, ASA, FASA)

All members holding the designation of AM, ASA or FASA are required to meet the USPAP continuing education requirement of one 7-hour USPAP update course every five years.

•   Business Valuation

Candidates

All Candidates in the Business Valuation discipline are required to have completed 15 hours of USPAP study within the five years preceding their application for advancement to Accredited Member or Accredited Senior Appraiser status.

Accredited Members (AM, ASA, FASA)

The Appraisal Foundation requires accredited BV appraisers to successfully complete at least 7 hours of USPAP course work every five years. This requirement may be met by taking a 7-hour USPAP update course, a 7-hour USPAP update course specific to Business Valuation (when this course is approved and available), a 15-hour USPAP course and exam or the 15-hour USPAP course (includes exam) specific to Business Valuation. Furthermore, in a letter to ASA from The Appraisal Foundation the following was approved:

"...effective April 1, 2014, all business valuers seeking recertification with ASA must demonstrate that they have taken at least 7 hours of USPAP education over the previous five years."

BV appraisers should still be obtaining the new releases of USPAP as they become available and should accommodate any change to their practice methodology accordingly.
