ASA to Present Webinar on How to Conquer Comps When Appraising Diamonds

by Alison Ho | Apr 18, 2016

The American Society of Appraisers will air “Conquering Comps” in Appraising Diamonds on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 1:00p.m. – 3:00p.m. ET.

Designed for jewelry appraisers, reviewers and users of jewelry appraisals, this two hour webinar will introduce a method for analyzing value differences when comparing diamonds. Attendees will learn how to select appropriate, useable comparators and employ a reliable methodology to arrive at a supportable opinion of value. The presenter will address evaluating differences between subject and comps, calculating a subject-to-comp ratio using an industry price matrix, and analysis of the adjusted prices for a final opinion of value. This technique is especially useful in tax and litigation assignments where Far Market Value is often required. Every attendee will receive a customizable spreadsheet template with “live” formulas for evaluating comps where the main value element is a diamond.

The webinar will be presented by Nancy Stacy, ASA, MGA, who is an independent jewelry appraiser specializing in appraisal of modern and antique fine jewelry, diamonds, gemstones, and watches in Walnut Creek, CA. A professional in the jewelry industry since 1980, Ms. Stacy owned a fine jewelry store for ten years before opening her jewelry appraisal practice in Walnut Creek, CA in 1990. She has been an ASA jewelry appraisal course developer and instructor, and operates Contra Costa Gem Lab, which is a Certified Laboratory of the Accredited Gemologists Association.

The price for the webinar is $99 for members and $129 for non-members. Registration is available online at http://www.appraisers.org/Education/View-Class?ClassID=3539 or by calling (800) 272-8258.
