USTR Removes Chinese Art Objects from Final List of Items Subject to Tariffs; ASA Had Urged Removal

by Jennifer Aguilar | Sep 26, 2018

On September 18, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the final list of items to be subject to a new round of tariffs on imports from China. Notably absent from the final list were any of the five specific item types that ASA had urged be removed from the list that dealt with Chinese art objects. Their absence from the list means that these items will NOT be subject to the new tariffs, and is a significantly positive outcome for collectors and curators of Chinese art, as well as those who regularly appraise these items.

ASA had previously filed written comments in support of the removal of these items from this list; you can read the letter by clicking here. To see the final list of items subject to tariff, click here.
