Sessions
Why Should I Attend A "Multidiscipline" Educational Session?
As ASA members, we understand and appreciate the multidiscipline approach to appraising. These sessions will provide an opportunity to learn about the similarities and differences in approaches to value. "Grain Facility Sale Case Study" and "Wind Powered Electric Generators" sessions have been identified as "RP and MTS," but attendance by members of BV, GJ and PP who may have interest in these areas or would like to learn more about this peer organization is welcomed.
In addition to the keynote speaker's session on "How to be an Effective Expert Witness," the Real Property discipline is offering several other educational sessions that may be of interest to members in all disciplines. These include "Expert Witness Testimony," "Eminent Domain" and "Ad Valorem Taxation." These sessions have been identified as "MULTIDISCIPLINE." Take a few minutes to consider these excellent educational opportunites as you plan your conference agenda.

MULTIDISCIPLINE GENERAL SESSION
MONDAY, AUGUST 4
8:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
How to Be an Effective Expert Witness
Phillip J. Kolcznyski, Esq., Kolczynski Law Corporation
In civil litigation an appraisal expert's report is an important piece of evidence. But even more important is the expertise provided by the appraiser expert, in person, when assisting the attorney with discovery and trial preparation, giving depositions, and testifying in trial. This session will provide practical advice with examples, illustrations and a live demonstration of the principles, techniques and strategies that make appraisers effective in all aspects of civil litigation as well as show them how to work with attorneys and make such assignments both profitable and enjoyable. Learning objectives include gaining an understanding of how to:
- Be effective when providing expert appraiser opinions in civil litigation
- Deal with ethical challenges that may arise when working as a neutral detached expert for attorneys who must be zealous advocates on behalf of their clients
- Be successful in the business side of being a forensic appraisal expert
- Be the most respected in the battle of the experts when two appraisers-both well qualified, experienced and ethical-are on opposite sides in civil litigation
- Enjoy working with lawyers
