Applications for IRS Advisory Council Due June 13, 2014

The Internal Revenue Service announced on May 1, 2014 it is accepting applications for the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC).

IRSAC’s purpose is to provide an organized public forum for IRS officials and representatives of the public to discuss relevant federal tax administration issues. IRSAC members submit a report to the IRS Commissioner annually at a public meeting in the fall.

IRSAC is comprised of up to 35 members, who are appointed to three-year terms by the Commissioner. Applications are currently being accepted for approximately seven appointments that will begin in January 2015.

ASA members interested in participating should apply online via the IRS website. Applications will be accepted through June 13, 2014.

Frazier, ASA, Managing Director of Valuation & Financial Opinions for Stout Risius Ross, Inc., and Chair of the Society’s Government Relations Committee shared some insight into this opportunity saying, “I served on IRSAC for three years, from 2009-2011. It was a fantastic experience and I gained a whole new understanding and appreciation for the work of the IRS. As integral participants in the extremely important world of taxation, we, as appraisers have an obligation to our clients, the public and our profession to be actively engaged in communicating with the entity charged with regulating and enforcing this environment—the IRS.
