ASA Education
To accommodate an increasingly knowledgeable and discerning clientele,
appraisers need to develop a working mastery of basic and discipline-specific
valuation theories and related field practices. Internationally
recognized as the leader in multidiscipline education, ASA offers
you one of the world's largest selections of conveniently located,
affordably priced appraisal training courses and seminars.
ASA's courses prepare you to become and remain competitive and
in demand for your professional services. By fulfilling ASA's educational,
professional and experience requirements, you can become designated
as an Accredited
Member (AM) or Accredited
Senior Appraiser (ASA) in the society. Once accredited, you
must maintain steady participation in a continuing education program
to meet the society's mandatory reaccreditation requirements and
to meet any applicable federal and state mandates for licensure
and certification.
To be as flexible as possible in meeting your education needs,
ASA offers some courses in audio
and online
learning formats as well as in the traditional classroom format.
More are being developed.
Following are brief descriptions of the society's principal educational
formats, namely:

These courses provide instruction and examination at successive,
increasing levels in five areas of appraisal: business
valuation, gems
and jewelry, machinery
and equipment valuation, personal
property valuation and real
property valuation.
The introductory-level courses (numbered 201) in each
of the disciplines provide the basics in general valuation theory
and terminology, discipline-specific theory and terminology and
aspects of appraising as a profession.
The higher-level courses (numbered 202-204, with Real
Property also having a 205) cover research and analysis methodologies,
case studies, government regulations, report writing and professional
standards.
Each of these courses has a final 3-4 hour objective question exam,
with a minimal passing score of 75 percent. Continuing education
hours may be awarded for each course completed:
These programs will help you work successfully in some of the most
active areas of valuation today. They are filled with practical
and fundamental techniques to help you expand client services and
increase revenues.
Continuing Education Seminars and Workshops
Individual disciplines present seminars and workshops
on topics of interest. The annual Advanced
Business Valuation Conference convenes appraisers and business
leaders to examine highly specialized valuation issues.
Supplementing these offerings are local and regional seminars and
workshops sponsored by society chapters for their members and professional
colleagues.
Continuing education seminars are approved for reaccreditation
credit.
