Alarming news reports about cybersecurity problems have appraisers worried – especially since USPAP requires appraisers to take reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality of client information. Fortunately, technology experts have developed protective measures to help prevent these problems from happening.

The presentation by Kyle Shumaker, President of STG Shumaker Technology Group will provide advice for appraisers on best practices when it comes to cybersecurity, including types of backups and firewalls, virus & malware and ransomware protection, phishing scams, cloud computing and regulatory compliance. The program will include time for discussion with your fellow ASA Chicago Chapter members about cybersecurity problems and solutions in both large and small appraisal firms.

Kyle Shumaker - is the President of Shumaker Technology Group, an IT firm serving clients from Florida to Alaska. Shumaker Group specializes in Information Technology Consulting in areas such as security, custom Website and Web App Development, and Document & Data Management. Kyle has a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Michigan State University as well as an assortment of industry certifications in computer repair, computer networks, and development/programming. In what little free time he has as a business owner, Kyle enjoys flying a small Cessna 150 airplane.
