Top Ten Ways to Know You’re a Valuation Geek…
With all due respect to David Letterman, and since it’s a slow news week in the summer, I thought you might like to see my “Top Ten” list of ways to know that you’re a valuation geek. Here goes…
10. You’ve got more books in your library by Roger Grabowski than Tom Clancy; you’re actually considering spending more money on Hitchner’s 3rd edition, and you know Gary Trugman can’t be far behind.
9. You’re still saving the 3.5” floppy disk with Chris Mercer’s QMDM toolkit even though you have no way of loading it on your PC.
8. Your wife mentions a couple of different options for activities for the weekend and you immediately begin constructing a binomial lattice to evaluate.
7. When the words “cash flow” are mentioned you recognize them as something that you try to measure, but never have enough of in your own practice.
6. You’re the only person in your neighborhood who upon hearing that a neighbor is getting divorced wonders how to get a referral to the attorney.
5. You’re disappointed that the Business Valuation Review is going electronic, because now you’ll have to find another journal to fill all that space on your bookshelf (that was previously reserved for the Journal of Employee Law and Finance, but they went electronic also).
4. You wonder why judges in the Delaware Chancery get to be appraisers, but you don’t get to be a judge.
3. You no longer like to receive mail addressed to you because you know it’s an invitation to renew a subscription, or an invoice to renew your membership, or a brochure to attend a conference.
2. As soon as you see an article regarding “total beta” you know that a rebuttal is forthcoming in about 28 milliseconds.
1. You are thinking about a new level of accreditation as a Certified Appraiser and Litigation Lover to go along with your Masters in Engineering so that your business card can have your name followed by “CALL ME”.
Well, like I said, it’s a slow week…Best wishes and hope you’re having a great summer. Back to working on my new accreditations.
