Important COVID-19 Update

ASA is monitoring the quickly changing environment around the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We understand our members’ concerns about health and safety and are making appropriate accommodations for upcoming classes and events. We will be updating our website regularly as the situation evolves.
 
 

News
  • CEO Updates: Important messages from ASA CEO, Johnnie White
  • Office Closure: The ASA headquarters staff will be providing HQ services remotely from their homes in accordance with local Washington, DC metro area government requirements. Staff will continue to deliver uninterrupted services for our members throughout the duration of the imposed closure period, which may result in several weeks.
  • Classes & Events: Be on the lookout for live webinars that may be helpful for members to navigate through this environment. ASA in-person classes and events are in the process of being rescheduled or converted to online access. Registrants are being notified of status and refund details. Please check online for the latest updates to ASA National Classes, Local Chapter Classes and Events. ASA also offers a full library of eLearning classes, including: OnDemand classes; webinars and webinar series; webinar recordings and audio recordings.
  • Membership: ASA offers installment payment plan options for membership dues renewals for members who suffer any hardships. Contact a member service representative at member@appraisers.org or (800) 272-8258.
  • Credentialing: ASA is temporarily postponing specialty exams, and offering a three (3) month grace period/temporary suspension of the reaccreditation application fee for members impacted by COVID-19.   • Support: The ASA Educational Foundation (ASAEF) has launched a new effort to support the families of ASA member appraisers who have died from COVID-19.

ASA is collaborating with a coalition of association executives where our total combined amount of membership represents thousands of small businesses, so we have a larger voice with the U.S. Government. Some of the items the coalition is working on are:
  • An emergency loan program to support small businesses during this crisis, with loans made available through private banks, supported with a federal guarantee.
  • Provide readily accessible, unsecured credit to businesses of all sizes to ensure they have the cash to pay their workers, rent, and other costs during this crisis.
  • Suspend the filing of business returns and the payment of all business taxes to the federal government for the duration of the pandemic. These suspended taxes should include taxes owed for the 2019 Tax Year, estimated payments for 2020, and all payroll tax obligations.
  • Amend the Tax Code to, among other items, restore the ability of businesses to carryback any net operating losses against previous year tax payments; suspend the application of the Section.
  • Petitioning for appraisers to be considered essential workers.
  • Urging additional appraisal flexibility for refinance transactions.
