Session Description

The term Provenance, the history of ownership and transfer of artworks, has made headlines following restitution battles of objects looted during World War II. While Provenance is instrumental in the return of artworks to their rightful owners, it is also very useful to art collectors and professionals. This presentation will address the diverse applications of provenance research for appraisers, including due diligence, authentication, attribution, proof of ownership and valuation. Using cases studies, it will also provide the tools, methodology and various resources at hand to help appraisers in their practice.
