On June 8th, ASA joined twelve organizations in signing a letter to Congress urging immediate passage of the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act (H.R. 4164 and S. 2256). Despite the 2016 IRS warning to abusers about potential repercussions due to involvement in these tax shelters, promoters of these deals remain undeterred. The bipartisan 2020 Senate Finance Committee report concluded that individuals misusing the tax deduction claimed $36 billion in tax deductions.
ASA supports the swift passage of H.R. 4164 and S. 2256 to put an end to further abuse and restore the integrity and intent of the conservation easement program.
