Mr. Bauer received his law degree in 1981 from the University of California, San Francisco School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar that year. He is an attorney for the southern California firm of Gaglione, Dolan & Kaplan, which acts as the national claims counsel for Aspen, the underwriter of the professional liability program for real estate appraisers, valuation experts and agents, administered through Liability Administrators & Insurance Services, located in Santa Barbara, California. Steven has been working with Claudia Gaglione at that firm since 2009, specializing in the areas of insurance coverage, claims and litigation management and administration involving Aspen’s insureds.

Lorrie Beaumont, FASA | Owner | LB Appraisal Associates, Inc.
Ms. Beaumont is the owner of Massachusetts-based LB Appraisal Associates in Westwood. She has been appraising properties since 1980 and established LB Appraisal in 1988. She completed her required course of study for licensure from the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers, the Appraisal Institute and the American Society of Appraisers. Ms. Beaumont is the past president of MBREA, as well as the International Past President of ASA. Ms. Beaumont holds a Fellow Accredited Senior Appraiser (FASA) designation from ASA, a Residential Appraiser (RA) designation from MBREA and is a state-certified residential appraiser in Massachusetts. Ms. Beaumont currently performs standard valuation services as well as appraisal review services for various banks and lending institutions.

Pamela Bensoussan, ASA, ARM, ISA, AM | Owner | Bensoussan & Associates
Pamela Bensoussan, ASA, ARM is the owner of Bensoussan & Associates in Houston and Los Angeles. She has over 35 years of experience valuing art, antiques and Oriental rugs. Pamela received the ASA designation in 2003 and the ARM designation in 2018. She has owned and operated galleries in California and in Paris, France. Pamela has authored numerous articles and lectured on topics ranging from Oriental rugs in Renaissance Painting to Appraising New Deal (WPA) art, presented at the 2019 ASA Connoisseurship Conference in Santa Fe, NM. She has held numerous leadership positions within ASA including terms as San Diego and Houston Chapter president and received ASA’s Chapter Member of the Year Award. She co-chaired the Houston Chapter’s Expert Witness Workshop and Mock Trial (2020, 2021, 2023) which was honored by ASA as the Educational Event of the Year in 2022.

Morris R. Borea | Partner | McGivney Kluger Clark & Intoccia, P.C.
Morris R. Borea is a Partner and Trial Counsel in MKCI’s Hartford, CT office. Morris is an accomplished trial lawyer who has represented corporations, municipalities and individuals in numerous jury trials and bench trials in State and Federal Courts in multiple jurisdictions. His practice includes product liability, professional negligence, and general liability claims, multi-million-dollar commercial tax appeals, inverse condemnation, eminent domain, and deprivation of Constitutional rights cases, and commercial litigation, as well as Public Entity and Non-Profit representation. Morris has also previously handled complex trade secret litigation, Qui Tam, False Claims Act (FCA) and whistleblower claims, and claims involving fraud, Unfair Trade Practices, excess coverage claims, and insurance bad faith litigation.

Mark Bovee, MAI, ASA, CVA | Lead Appraiser | Internal Revenue Service – Large Business International Division
Mark Bovee has been a Lead Appraiser at the IRS since 2019.  He has over 26 years valuation experience of which 21 years was in private practice.  He holds several RE and business valuation designations.  Mark has served in leadership positions with the Appraisal Institute as local chapter president and national screener.  Prior to starting work as an appraiser in 1998 Mark completed a 21 year tour of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps at various posts and stations throughout the United States and abroad as well as multiple major overseas deployments with FMF and Special Operations Capable (SOC) forces.

Richard Conti, ASA, ARM is a sole proprietor of Conti Appraisal Service. He has over 32 years of experience in valuing tangible assets for a wide range of purposes. He is a highly sought after course developer, instructor, author and presenter. Mr. Conti has been a designated member of ASA for over 20 years, an active volunteer with numerous leadership positions, including most notably serving as President of the Boston Chapter, twice, now VP.

Barry J. Cunningham, Ph.D., ASA, MAI, AI-GRS | CEO | Property Tax Research, LLC
Barry Cunningham, PhD, ASA, is the CEO of Property Tax Research. He has over 37 years of experience as an appraiser, teacher, and trainer. He has developed and taught courses presented to ASA, the national assessors association, the American Bar Association (ABA), and a variety of local appraisal chapters. He’s written articles for ABA’s Probate & Property Journal and ASA’s Business Valuation Review Journal. He focuses on complex litigation and has a special interest in intangible asset valuation.

Scott DeMarco, MBA, CBA, CVA, CDFA, CPVA | CEO | Equitable Value LLC
Scott has been qualified and appointed by courts as an expert witness, and his business valuation opinions have been adopted by courts. Prior to his career in business appraisal, Scott accumulated experience in finance, accounting, and marketing through his involvement as CFO in the growth and subsequent sale of two software enterprises. He is a Certified Business Appraiser, Certified Valuation Analyst, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, and Certified Patent Valuation Analyst.

Charlie is president and owner of CD Valuations Services, In.  An ASA member for over 30 years, Charlie is an Accredited Senior Appraiser in the MTS and ARM disciplines of ASA, a Certified Senior Appraiser of the Equipment Appraisers of North America (EANA), and an Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) Certified USPAP Instructor (personal property).  In addition to teaching USPAP, he is an instructor for ASA of POV courses, including AR201, ME201 & 202, and various seminars on report writing, appraisal best practices, and other issues. He has served the ASA internationally on the Machinery & Technical Specialties (MTS) Committee for over ten years and for two years as MTS Discipline Governor. As an active member of the Philadelphia ASA chapter, Charlie served as Chapter President and was awarded the George D. Sinclair Award for Professionalism. Charlie currently serves the ASA on the Educational Foundation, the Board of Examiners (ARM), and as co-editor of the ARM e-journal and he is the Appraisal Review Chair for EANA.

He is a highly sought after speaker, consultant, and conflict resolution expert.  He has served on leadership boards and committees of   the ASA, NACVA, and over a dozen other entities. He is a Qualified Mediator with the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Karen Lascelle, CPA, CVA, CFE, is a Managing Director at John Burk & Associates CPAs, PC, with over 25 years of expertise in business valuation, financial forensics, litigation support, corporate taxation, and mergers and acquisitions. A 2006 MBA graduate from Southern New Hampshire University, Karen is dedicated to upholding ethical standards as a member of the Ethics Oversight Board for NACVA. With a notable history, including past presidencies at the New Hampshire Society of CPAs and the Rotary Club of Nashua West, she also contributes her insights to the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Commission (AIMLC) for NACVA.

Terri Lastovka, CPA, JD, ASA, ARM is a sole practitioner doing business as Valuation & Litigation Consulting, LLC.  She has 27 years of experience in valuing businesses/forensic accounting for a wide variety of purposes including litigation.  Ms. Lastovka has been published numerous times and presents continuing legal education to bar associations regularly.  She is actively involved with ASA and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the ARM Discipline Committee.

Chris Mellen, ASA, MCBA, CVA, ABAR, ICVS, CM&AA | Senior Managing Director | Valuation Research Corporation
Chris M. Mellen is a Senior Managing Director with Valuation Research Corporation (VRC), leading its Boston office. His experience includes involvement in nearly 4,000 valuations of businesses and intangible assets since 1989; and starting, building, and selling his own valuation firm. He is also the author of the third edition of Valuation for M&A: Building and Measuring Private Company Value, published by Wiley in 2018.  Chris is a business valuation instructor with iiBV and has been an active volunteer, including serving as President of Boston’s ASA chapter.

Christopher Pavilonis, CPA (inactive), J.D., L.L.M. | Special Trial Attorney | IRS Office of Chief Counsel
Christopher Pavilonis is a Special Trial Attorney in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. He started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP as an Associate before going to law school and entering government service. He has tried over two dozen cases in U.S. Tax Court including many valuation cases. In addition, he has engaged in numerous internal and external outreach events within the IRS and the Florida Bar. He received the Marvin C. Gutter Outstanding Public Service Award from the Florida Bar and national awards from the IRS Office of Chief Counsel.

Mr. Penny, who holds the designation of senior member in the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), prepares valuation analyses of privately held firms for numerous purposes including recapitalizations, equitable distributions, estate planning, employee stock ownership plans, mergers and acquisitions, fairness opinions, purchase price allocation and calculation of economic damages. Mr. Penny is also experienced in estimating the value and useful life of intangible assets including goodwill, customer lists, franchises, trademarks, tradenames, and professional degrees. Mr. Penny has prepared valuations for a wide range of businesses including manufacturing companies, communications firms, various professional practices, small businesses, and agricultural enterprises. Mr. Penny has been qualified as an expert witness and testified in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Florida. He has lectured on the topic of business valuation on behalf of the National Center for Employee Ownership and before estate planning groups.

John Rake is the managing partner of Larkins Vacura Kayser LLP, where he specializes in securities, healthcare, and business litigation and advises closely held businesses. As an attorney, he strives to provide his clients with clear advice backed by careful research, and he enjoys opportunities to work closely with subject matter experts-including several appraisers– who consult with or testify on behalf of his clients. Rob Schlegel, FASA, MCBA is a Past International President and has taught all four BV courses, including BV203 where the issue of Discounts for Lack of Control is addresses.   His professional duties as a Principal at Houlihan Valuation Advisors requires the appraisal of many non-controlling interests, which rely on a DLOC in various analytical methods.

Jack Young, ASA, CPA | Owner, Senior Appraiser | NorCal Valuation J.

Recognized in 2021-2022 as ASA Appraiser of the Year, Jack was elected in 2023 to the International Board of Governors of the American Society of Appraisers. He has served the ASA internationally as Chair of the Appraisal Review & Management subcommittee, on the Board of Examiners, as a member of the Ethics Board of Inquiry, and as past editor of the Appraisal Review E-journal, published quarterly by the ASA. He is an active member of the Northern California Chapter where he served as Chapter President and ARM Director.
