For ASA, the past few weeks have marked a period of considerable change, encompassing both losses and new beginnings.
We are mourning the death of a long-time member of our ASA family, Joe Noselli. Joe passed away on Monday, June 3, surrounded by his family, after a battle with esophageal cancer.
Joe served as ASA’s chief financial officer for twelve years, providing his financial experience as well as his calm and thoughtful advice to our operations staff, the Board of Governors, and our many chapters and discipline committees. He served as the staff liaison to the Appraisal Review & Management Committee, the ASA Educational Foundation, and our various international committees related to finances and investments.
Joe was a devoted family man, sharing his life with Laura, his wife of 35 years. Together, they raised two daughters, Caitlin and Shannon, and he was blessed with two grandchildren, Madalynn and Emily.
A funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road in York, Pennsylvania, with Father Peter Rettig officiating. Prior to the service, there will be a viewing from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. The mass will be live-streamed at HeffnerCare.com around 2:30 p.m. on Joe’s obituary page, and a celebration of life will be held at South County Brewing Co., 170 Crossway Drive in York, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an organization that had Joe’s passionate support, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Donations can be made online at https://bit.ly/st-jude-donations.
Joe’s passing is a loss to our ASA family, but we also look to the additions to our ASA family. In the spirit of continuity, we also celebrate our new CEO, Lana Vukovljak, who will join us on July 1.
Lana brings extensive expertise and leadership to ASA. She has experience as CEO of the Residential Real Estate Council, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, and the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). Prior to her CEO role at AADE, she also had served as their Chief Learning Officer. Her strong experience in professional education also includes as Vice President of Continuing Education for the American Health Information Management Association. Lana’s proven track record in enhancing professional education will be a huge asset as we work to grow and improve ASA’s own education.
Lastly, we celebrate our most recent Society election. Our members voted for members of the Board of Governors, chapter officers, members-at-large and officers for all our six discipline committees. We elected a new international president, G. Adrian Gonzalez, Jr., who has experience as a chapter officer, region governor, and international officer. Our new international vice president, William Engel, served this past year as international secretary/treasurer, and previously served as an officer and chair of ASA’s International Machinery & Technical Specialties Committee as well as other international committees, and was elected as a Fellow of ASA this past year. Our newest international officer, Carol Akers Klug, will serve as international secretary/treasurer. She previously served as a region governor, helped launch our International Virtual Chapter, and has been instrumental in the Houston Energy Valuation Conference.
This experienced and talented team takes their new offices on July 1. They are well suited to work with your Board of Governors and our new CEO to lead our Society into the challenges of the future.
It has been my utmost privilege and honor to serve as your international president. As I wrap up the last few weeks of my term, I thank you for your continued support of ASA.
Best regards,
Garrett Schwartz
