Appraiser Profile:

Laurance D. Triplette, M.A., ASA, is a writer, curator and generalist fine art appraiser.  Triplette owned and operated Laurance Triplette, Inc. Fine Art Services, a private art advisory company that was headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., prior to relocating to Mississippi in late 2007. The NC company, which closed in June 2008, after 25 years of operation, offered acquisitions assistance and curatorial services, appraisals, and art research through a national syndicate of fine art specialists, and an on-line computer network.

Triplette’s Mississippi appraisal services are offered through Laurance Triplette, LLC, Fine Art Services, headquartered in Oxford. The Mississippi firm focuses on fine art consultation and appraisal of fine and related decorative arts for the purposes of insurance scheduling, charitable donations, estate planning and settlement, and dissolution of marriage.  Triplette has extensive experience in the areas of 18th, 19th and 20th century American, Latin American, English and Continental painting, sculpture and works on paper, original prints, and 19th/20th century studio crafts. To appraise specialty categories of art, Triplette relies on assistance from a long-standing consortium of specialists in fields such as nonwestern ethnic art (African, American Indian, pre-Columbian, and Asian art and artifacts), vintage photography, Classical antiquities, and decorative arts that  predate the late 19th century.

Triplette is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with the American Society of Appraisers, and completed the current USPAP requirement in January 2009. Triplette has held chapter and regional ASA offices, including president, vice president, and secretary of both North Carolina chapters; developed and directed two national fine art symposia for ASA; helped develop the current ASA Fine Arts advancement examination; currently serves as webmaster for ASA’s International Personal Property Committee, and is a member of ASA’s International Board of Fine Art Examiners. Since 2004, Triplette has served on a fine art anti-fraud advisory panel for Ebay.

Since 2008, Triplette has been collaborating with fellow ASA appraiser Corinne Cain on research and related seminars about post-World War II developments in the fine print market. Triplette recently completed work on two cookbooks: A cookbook of tailgating recipes for the NFL Referees Association titled Zebra Tales; and a four-family humor-oriented cookbook titled Gimme Some Sugar, Darlin’ (The Secret Lexicon of Southernness & One Old Bride’s Guide to Southern Cooking), both to be published in 2010. Triplette currently is developing a research project for a book and archival documentation on Mississippi potters and pottery traditions.
