Appraiser Profile:
Michael Lavelle is a director of Appraisal Economics Inc., responsible for supervising and performing valuations of business interests, securities, and intangible assets.  His clients range from publicly traded companies to biotechnology start-ups.  He has performed valuation studies for a variety of purposes including:  purchase price allocations, goodwill impairment, federal income and estate taxes, litigation, solvency and fairness issues, due diligence, transfer pricing, and management planning.  He has also valued limited partnership interests, holding companies, and fractional interests in real property.  

His experience includes engagements for the following industries:  alternative asset management, apparel, amusement parks, comic books, communications, computer software, education, energy, financial and news data services, food and beverage, healthcare, insurance, investment management, not-for-profit, online advertising, power plants, publishing, real estate, retail, securities and foreign exchange trading, solar energy, and telecommunications.  Mr. Lavelle has performed analysis of intangible assets including:  assembled workforces, client relationships, computer software, copyrights, covenants not to compete, distributor relationships, domain names, goodwill, patents, proprietary technology, trademarks, and trade names.  His experience with financial securities includes the valuation of common, preferred, and restricted stocks, traditional and barrier options, warrants, and convertible and unsecured debts.

Mr. Lavelle earned a Master of Business Administration, With Distinction, from New York University, where he specialized in finance.  He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma international business honor society.  Mr. Lavelle received a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a minor concentration in finance from The College of New Jersey.  He has also studied economics at Queensland University of Technology in Queensland, Australia.

Mr. Lavelle is an accredited senior member of the American Society of Appraisers, and has attended courses ranging from the basics of business valuation to advanced courses such as the valuation of intangible assets.  He currently serves on the board of the local chapter of the American Society of Appraisers.  Mr. Lavelle holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst, and is a member of the CFA Institute and the New York Society of Security Analysts.
