This guidance applies to in-person and hybrid offerings with travel requirements, as these programs are subject to change based on registration levels, onsite logistics, or other unforeseen operational factors. Registrants should not purchase non-refundable airline tickets until they receive an official course alert from ASA staff. In-person and hybrid offerings are typically confirmed about two weeks before class, while virtual courses may be confirmed about one week before the start date.
ASA agrees to make a good-faith effort to ensure that its course sites comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and its regulations and guidelines. Registrants needing any special assistance, should contact the Education Team at least two (2) weeks in advance of the course to allow headquarters enough time to make any necessary arrangements. All requests will be held in confidence.
Class attendance is an essential part of the educational process. To successfully complete and receive course credit, registered learners are expected to attend the full educational event (arriving or logging on time), and to remain in class for its complete duration. All course absences or early departures are noted by instructors.
Attendance for webinars and/or other virtual-based courses is monitored through the learning management system login and documentable participation in the class (interacting with the instructor or other learners, submitting course assignments, etc.).
Calculator use may be permitted in certain ASA education offerings where course content or assessment tasks require it. Calculator allowances, restrictions, and any course-specific guidance will be determined by the requirements of each individual course. These examples show the kinds of calculators that may be required depending on the discipline and learning objectives:
Cancellations must be submitted in writing. Refund eligibility depends on the delivery format and the timing of the cancellation. ASA may charge a cancellation fee or deny a refund when access has already begun or when a learner does not attend without notice.
Upon successful completion of a course, you will receive an electronic Certificate of Completion ( Sample Certificate of Completion). Certificates of Completion may also be downloaded online via the learner Education Dashboard. Please note: A Certificate of Completion is NOT the same as a credential/designation from ASA. The certificate simply serves as learner verification of passing or completing the course/offering and received ASA continuing education credit.
By completing a registration, students acknowledge and agree to abide by ASA's Learner Code of Conduct.
Some ASA classes have a set minimum and maximum number of registrants. Enrollees are registered on a first-come, first-served basis. If the number of registrants for an offering reaches the maximum limit, typically any additional registrants will be placed on a wait list managed by the education staff.
ASA works hard to provide excellent service and superb educational experiences for our students. In the unfortunate event you experience any issues please forward your complaint in writing to ASA’s Director of Education in order for headquarters to work towards a resolution.
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit is awarded by the National Registry of CPE Sponsors of which ASA is an approved course provider. All courses for which CPE credit is available are properly noted on the course and class listings.
All ASA courses, classes, and webinars are approved for ASA Continuing Education (CE) which may be used for ASAʼs accreditation and reaccreditation purposes. The number of approved hours for CE is listed on each course/class/ webinar description.
For real property courses, ASA seeks pre-approval for state real property appraiser continuing education (CE) credit for the state where the course is being held and in surrounding states. Each course description will provide a list of states in which CE has been approved and where it is pending. If there is no mention of state approvals or you do not see your state listed, ASA has not secured approval in that state for that course. Please contact ASA's RP Education Manager with any questions.
ASA courses are updated at regular intervals and whenever regulations or standards are revised to ensure that all course offerings remain current, accurate, and aligned with industry requirements.
The dress code for both in person and virtual educational offerings is business casual.
Substitutions are permissible only if ASA education staff is notified prior to the start of the offering and is subject to processing. It is the registrant’s responsibility to make a request in writing to education staff for assistance with transferring to the substitute registrant all course-related information, materials, schedules, and pre-class assignments. Any prerequisite education and experience requirement is applicable to the substitute registrant. If the substitute registrant has not met any prerequisites, they will not be allowed to participate in the class.
ASA course exams range from 50 to 100-question, multiple choice exams. A score of 75% or higher is considered a passing score. Grades are provided to students as “Pass/Fail” only and course examinations are not returned to students after grading. Exam results are typically provided immediately following completion; however, the delivery of exam results may vary depending on the course. For instance, some courses include a report to submit or additional components in addition to passing the exam. That’s specific per course, look it up on the course registration page. Exam results will not be provided by telephone. If you owe any course-related fees to ASA or you have not met the course completion prerequisites, your results and credit will be withheld until such accounts/prerequisites are settled in full. Unless otherwise specified, if you do not pass an exam, you may retake the exam once within one calendar year of the original exam date. If a passing grade is still not received, you will need to retake the course.
ASA offers group discounts only to companies sending five (5) or more students to the same class. Please reach out to the Education Team for more information regarding group registration discounts.
ASA instructors are selected through a structured review process led by Education staff in partnership with the relevant Discipline Committee. Candidates are evaluated based on qualifications, subject matter expertise, teaching ability, and completion of required educator training.
If you are interested in becoming an instructor, please contact the Education Team for more information.
ASA’s learning management system and exam process require all participants to have internet.
ASA will make every effort to provide students with access to wireless internet at course sites; however, depending on the format, location, and other factors, internet access may not always be possible. Please reach out to the Education Team regarding internet access information for any upcoming course offering.
Students agree to follow the Learner Code of Conduct when registering for a course or event. By completing registration, students acknowledge and agree to abide by the Learner Code of Conduct. Continuing to participate in the course signifies ongoing acceptance of these expectations. The Learner Code of Conduct outlines expectations for respectful and professional behavior, active and engaged participation, timely completion of course requirements, honest and ethical academic conduct, compliance with intellectual property restrictions, and prohibition of behaviors such as academic dishonesty, harassment or discrimination, disruptive conduct, unauthorized sharing of course materials, and misrepresentation of identity or credentials.
For In-Person Classes students are responsible for making their own lodging reservations and for all costs associated with lodging, meals, and transportation. At most course locations, special group lodging rates have been negotiated, and a reserved block of rooms will be held for up to twenty-one (21) days before the course start date. At the three-week point, hotels usually release the room block for sale to the general public. Hotel reservations generally may be cancelled without penalty up to 48 hours before the arrival date, but students should check with the hotel as to its individual cancellation policy. In most cases, ASA will provide breakfast and snacks at in-person course locations.
ASA and its affiliates reserve the right to use any photograph, video and/or recording taken at any event sponsored, conducted or hosted by ASA without the express written permission of those attendees included within the photograph, video and/or recording. Attendees who do not wish to be photographed, filmed and/or otherwise recorded or have their name, voice, image and/or likeness used by ASA, should not register for, attend or participate in the ASA event.

Some ASA offerings require more preparation than others. Depending on the course, webinar, or conference session, you may receive pre-reading, primer materials, instructor guidance, demo or polling questions, or other short actions to complete before the start date. Please review all registration confirmations, reminder emails, and other notifications from ASA or the instructor carefully, since required preparation may be included there.
ASA examinations require a proctor present with the examinee throughout the entire exam assessment, unless otherwise specified. Typically, all course exam proctoring is handled by headquarters and incorporated into the class schedule.
ASA offers online examination proctoring options for students who need to take a proctored course exam, a challenge exam, or re-take an exam. Either a designated class exam session is predetermined, or students may register for a monthly open examination session monitored by a virtual proctor. Examinees are provided login information and instructions on accessing the exam after registering for the exam session. Exam sessions may be found on ASAʼs Upcoming Class Schedule (look for ASA EXAM ONLY).
For exam proctoring options and alternatives, contact the ASA Education Team or discipline program manager.
For those wishing to take their exam in person with a local in-person proctor, Contact Us for further guidance.

Retake deadlines vary from a 90-day window to one (1) year from the conclusion of the course to retake the relevant examination. Please Contact Us for more information.
Course schedules may vary by offering and may include consecutive multi-day formats, weekly sessions, or series delivered over several weeks, depending on instructor availability and course design.
Please see the individual course descriptions and registration information for which days are scheduled for lecture, assignments, and which are designated as exam administration days.
ASA courses usually run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on instructional days and from 8:00 a.m. to noon on exam days. Breaks are provided in the morning and afternoon, along with a lunch break.
In person classes - Classrooms will be secured during the lunch break; however, please be aware that venue staff will enter the room from the “back of the house” to bus tables, etc. If you have any personal valuables, you should take them with you or store them somewhere safe during the time you'll be out of the room. When rooms are locked for lunch, they will not be unlocked until the class is ready to resume.
