We put together a team of field experts and spear-headed solutions for victims to recover, repair and estimate total and partial losses; recovering their personal property and unraveling its value was important, but their emotional well-being was our highest priority.
2005 Hurricane Katrina Recovery Project
With the experienced gained through the WTC recovery, we collaborated with Insurers, VP of Corporate Insurance for JP Morgan Chase, outside counsel and sixteen branch managers in the region to spear-head another jewelry and precious articles triage recovery center in the New Orleans region; innovated technology and infrastructure to support our recovery team and streamline sorting, recovering and (e)valuating damaged & lost personal property.
2008 Tropical Storm Fay Recovery Project
Our Catastrophic Appraisal Solutions team landed in Chicago to brainstorm and execute solutions for a flooded Chase bank diminished value appraisal project.
2012 Super Storm Sandy Recovery Project
Reconnected with our network, we set up three recovery centers to evaluate, restore, replace and estimate damages for the contents of safety deposit boxes located at sixteen Chase Bank branches throughout Long Island, Brooklyn and North Jersey.  We brought viable valuation-research approaches along with a seamless process to streamline the work.

David Wolf, G.G., A.S.A., Master Gemologist Appraiser®
I served on the Board of Governors of the American Society of Appraisers in 2005 and resigned from the board (representing the Gems & Jewelry Committee) due to Hurricane Katrina related work. My expertise includes gems, jewelry, watches, pearls and antiques. In 1979, I started with my father in a small family retail shop. The past 29 years of buying, selling and servicing jewelry and watches evolved into appraising. As Director of Just Appraisers, I operate an independent gems & jewelry lab in New York and I consult on diminished value versus total loss due to catastrophic loss, mysterious disappearance and litigation of precious articles. My clients include banks, underwriters, individuals and government agencies.

In the early 1980’s, I sold rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds for a well known importer and distributor of fine gemstones. Then, I was recruited by Macy’s East to develop their estate jewelry department. I worked closely with Macy’s legal counsel to acquire licenses throughout the east coast. I became familiar with municipal and county ordinances and state statutes. I also assisted Macy’s corporate to enhance their quality control standards with vendors from New York and Bangkok. I headed the appraisal department at Herald Square. After 9 years with Macy’s, I worked closely with Paul Lubetsky, Windsor Jewelers for 5 years. We purchased close-outs directly from Cartier, Fred Joaillier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bulgari as well as high volume commercial liquidations. My experience includes buying and selling reproduction and antique from Turkey, Korea, India and South America and I can detect current reproductions of antique fabrication in most cases.

I am currently a full time professional appraiser and my approach to value is based on cost guides, dealer quotes and comparable sales research. Upon request, my opinions can be rendered in forensic reports with full market narrative and gemological descriptions and photos.

All those reports include CV and certification, the intended use, a description of the marketplace, the approach to value and the value analysis. All reports and files are held strictly confidential.
