There, her work focuses on stewarding the TFC's world-class holdings, creating academic programming, and curating exhibitions for a range of cultural institutions. Her work is informed by professional experience in museums around the country, as well as graduate education in art history, art education, and history.

María C. Gaztambide, PhD, is the Executive Director of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. Prior to returning to her hometown of San Juan, she led Public Art UHS in Houston where she oversaw exhibitions and public art projects. Formerly, she headed the ICAA at the MFA, Houston where her work straddled administration, research, publications, and long-term exhibition projects. Gaztambide publishes regularly on modern and contemporary art and is the author of "El Techo de la Ballena: Retro-Modernity in Venezuela" and "On Site: 50 Years of Public Art at the University of Houston System," both from 2019. She holds Master’s degrees in Art History and Arts Administration as well as a doctorate in Latin American Studies.
